about

White Shark, like Sleuth, began in Ed Thorne's head, and in its first embodiment was a compelling combination of beats and synths. Alex Lato structured the ideas, and finessed the bass line and supporting instrumental hooks into their current structure, writing the melody and lyrics at the same time. White Shark was for a long time an outlier in terms of style, but it was helped into the fold by Simon Bowker's 'Ibiza' hook and understated driven guitar in the back end of the song.

Lyrically the song is a reflection of the organised chaos of Ed's soundscape, which reminded Alex of sleepless nights with bad dreams. Like Phantom, Alex addresses the eternal question of the existence of a higher power, although here the issue remains unresolved.

lyrics

White Shark

Dark shrouds in my dreams at night
At times I wish I'd stayed awake
Harsh sounds in my sleep at night
I never work out what they say

I can remember
That I don't remember all that much
I can remember, there's a

Ch: White shark on a bleach horizon
Trying to make it to the shore
I wish I didn't need to wonder what he's for,
If there's a higher love
To keep me strong enough
Higher light to keep me safe at night.

Strange face in my dreams at night
Memories fade away
Wise ghosts and they speak at night
But I never work out what they say

And when I wake up
I don't remember all that much
But I can remember there's a

Ch 2: White shark on a bleached horizon
Trying to make it to the shore
I wish I didn't need to wonder any more
If there's a higher love
To keep me strong enough (when the wall's come down)
Higher light to keep me safe at night.

White shark, white shark.

Ch 2: White shark on a bleached horizon
Trying to make it to the shore
I wish I didn't need to wonder any more
If there's a higher love
To keep me strong enough (when the wall's come down)
Higher light to keep me safe at night.
