Phantom started life in the fingers of Simon Bowker, who dreamed up the riff in one of the first band practices after the LA adventure. Phantom is a classic 1st Generation Fuse track, where the band just 'played' and the song came together. Lyrics and melody were written spontaneously by Alex Lato, whilst the track structure and soundscape was honed by Jake Blair and Alex Lato at Jake's studio in Hackney.

Lyrically the song addresses the idea of the benevolent goddess, who can be turned to in times of need. It deals with the idea of life after death 'sends my soul to the setting sun' and that death is not something to be feared, in the presence of the goddess.
