Oxygen started life in the fingers of Simon Bowker, with a harmonics riff which has actually been left out of the 2015 version of the song. It is a 1st Generation Fuse track, which came together in practice in about 2011, and was originally recorded in the band's Munich sessions with producer Seb Roeder. Structurally the song is a Lato/Blair/Bowker combo, with Alex writing the main chorus hook and Jake adding the rhythm and structure for the 'no limit to life' section. Bowker brought the half time middle 8 chord progression, and Oxygen represents 1st Generation Fuse at its very best.

Lyrically the song addresses the sentiments of all members of the band in 2011/12, and encourages everyone to look forward and see the brighter future. Alex Lato wrote some of the lyrics in Germany, shortly before the recording, in the hang out room at Back Yard Studios, Kempten, Bavaria.
