Misfit began life as a drum and bass beat / riff / soundscape that Ed Thorne wrote, in a response to Alex Lato's call for a stylistic shake up, at the beginning of 2014. Alex immediately resonated with the style and wrote the bulk of the lyrics on the spot. The song was far from finished, however, being thrown around for about 6 months before Alex added the 'o o o' section which precedes the middle 8. The song wasn't completely finished until the vocal recording, when Alex put the final piece of the jigsaw in place with the falsetto 'she's got angel eyes' section.
Lyrically the song is based on an actual event, where Alex, out for the night in Piccadilly / Leicester Square area of London saw a girl of 18/19 blind drunk, and freezing, wearing very little, sitting on the street and snarling at anyone who went near her to help. The song is a development of that image.
lyrics
Misfit
Walking like a blind man stumbling around
With her wings all clipped tonight
Wearing very little little harlot piece of spittle
Leaves tracks where its dripped and dried
How's it feel to feel so unforgiven?
How's it feel to forget that you've been forgotten?
The kid is a misfit, broken, by a school girl fantasy
The kid is a misfit, broken, its a true life tragedy.
And in the middle of the night she cries,
You can hunt me down you never take me alive
In the middle of the night she cries, Woah.
How's it feel to feel so unforgiven?
How's it feel to forget that you've been forgotten?
The kid is a misfit, broken, by a school girl fantasy
The kid is a misfit, broken, its a true life tragedy.
I wanna hold her in my arms forever.
She's got angel eyes, and lips sent straight from heaven
Lonely smile, is her last and only weapon,
The kid is a misfit, broken, by a school girl fantasy
The kid is a misfit, broken, its a true life tragedy.
